About the Role
Stepping into the department for the January term, you will transform classical social theory, research methodology, social stratification, family dynamics, crime and deviance, and global development into high-rigor, compelling learning experiences. Joining a collaborative and scholarly team, you will deliver rich lessons across Key Stage 4 (GCSE Sociology) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Sociology / Extended Project Qualification guidance), equipping young thinkers with the analytical depth, evaluative precision, and empirical reasoning valued by top Russell Group and global universities.

Culture: A welcoming, scholarly, and open-minded community that champions academic rigor, vibrant debate, character education, and high university aspirations for every student
Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver academically rigorous, engaging Sociology lessons across Key Stages 4 and 5 covering sociological perspectives (Functionalism, Marxism, Feminism, Postmodernism), methodology, education, crime, and contemporary global structures.
Prepare GCSE and A-Level candidates thoroughly for national written examinations through explicit modeling of 20- and 30-mark evaluative essays, empirical data interpretation, and data-driven progress tracking.
Foster an inclusive, seminar-style classroom culture where critical debate, diverse societal perspectives, and complex ethical questions are explored with intellectual precision and mutual respect.
Monitor, track, and evaluate student progress systematically, executing tailored extension strategies to stretch high-aspiring social science scholars targeting Oxbridge and Russell Group pathways.
Contribute actively to the broader co-curricular life of the independent school, including sociology debating societies, social research clubs, guest lecturer series, and academic study trips.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential (independent school experience or PGCE preferred).
A strong academic degree in Sociology, Social Policy, Criminology, Anthropology, or a closely related social science discipline.
Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding Sociology instruction across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Sociology teaching capability is essential).
In-depth knowledge of national examination board specifications (e.g., AQA, OCR, Edexcel) for Sociology.
Exceptional classroom presence, strong analytical and written communication skills, and an infectious enthusiasm for sociological inquiry and social analysis.
Salary & Benefits
Pay Scale: Independent School Salary Scale (above national pay spine, commensurate with qualifications and experience).
Independent Schools Pension Scheme / TPS option, generous fee remission for staff children, small class sizes, complimentary lunch, structured continuous professional development (CPD), and access to extensive campus sports and wellbeing facilities.
