An opportunity to support creativity and practical learning
A successful secondary school in Salisbury is looking for a Design and Technology Technician to join its specialist department.
The school offers pupils opportunities to explore practical subjects, develop technical skills and work on creative projects. Its Design and Technology department includes dedicated workshops and classrooms, where pupils work with a range of materials and equipment.
The technician will play a vital role in ensuring that lessons are well prepared, equipment is maintained and pupils can work safely.
What the position involves
Working closely with the Design and Technology teaching team, you’ll help prepare the department for practical lessons and maintain an organised, safe working environment.
Typical duties include:
Preparing materials, tools and equipment for lessons.
Setting up practical activities and demonstrations.
Maintaining and organising workshop equipment.
Checking tools and machinery for safety and reporting faults.
Supporting stock control and ordering materials.
Assisting with the safe storage and disposal of materials.
Keeping workshops and preparation areas clean and organised.
Helping teachers ensure equipment is ready for practical projects.
Carrying out routine checks and maintaining relevant records.
Skills and experience
We’re interested in candidates with practical, technical or workshop experience. This could come from Design and Technology, construction, engineering, manufacturing or a similar hands-on environment.
You’ll need a responsible approach to health and safety, good organisation and the ability to work collaboratively with staff and pupils.
Previous school technician experience would be advantageous, but it isn’t essential if you have relevant practical skills and are willing to learn.
An enhanced DBS check will be required.
If you enjoy working with your hands and supporting young people as they develop practical skills, this could be an excellent opportunity.
