Job Overview

The successful candidate will play a vital role in the day-to-day maintenance, security and smooth operation of the school premises. Responsibilities will include opening and securing the building, carrying out minor repairs, conducting routine safety inspections and ensuring that the school facilities remain in excellent condition.

Working alongside the wider facilities team, you will support contractors, manage site access and respond promptly to maintenance requests, helping to create a safe and welcoming school environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Open, close and secure the school premises, conducting regular security and safety checks.

• Carry out general maintenance, minor repairs and routine site inspections.

• Ensure school buildings, grounds and facilities remain safe, clean and well-maintained.

• Coordinate contractor access, oversee visitors and assist with deliveries and porterage duties.

• Maintain accurate site records, complete meter readings and report maintenance issues.

• Follow health and safety procedures, including COSHH regulations and safe working practices.

• Support school activities and community use of the premises when required.

• Salary: Competitve; dependent on experience.

• Working Hours: 37.5 hours per week, Monday–Friday, with rotating shifts between 6:00 AM and 9:00 PM.

Candidate Requirements

• Previous experience in caretaking, facilities maintenance, building maintenance or a similar practical role is desirable but not essential.

• Basic knowledge of health and safety procedures, including manual handling, working at height and COSHH guidelines.

• Practical maintenance skills and the ability to undertake minor repairs.

• Good communication, organisation and customer service skills.

• Basic IT skills, including the ability to use email and maintain records.

• A reliable, flexible and proactive approach to maintaining school premises.

• Eligibility to work in the UK and willingness to undergo enhanced DBS clearance and required background checks.
