About the Role
As a Teacher of Music, you will transform music theory, composition, practical performance, and music technology into engaging, inclusive learning experiences. Joining a collaborative and vibrant department, you will deliver high-rigor lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE Music / Vocational Music), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Music / Rockschool / BTEC Music Performance), empowering students to explore diverse genres, master instrument skills, and connect with global musical traditions.

Key Responsibilities
Plan and deliver engaging, academically rich Music lessons across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 covering music theory, composition, performance skills, listening analysis, and music history.
Prepare GCSE, A-Level, and vocational candidates thoroughly for written listening exams, coursework composition submissions, and assessed practical solo/ensemble recitals.
Embed digital music technology and production tools alongside traditional instrumental and vocal instruction to reflect contemporary industry practices.
Track, evaluate, and monitor pupil progress systematically, implementing targeted support to stretch gifted performers while building musical confidence and literacy in developing learners.
Direct and oversee departmental co-curricular activities, including school choirs, orchestras, rock bands, instrumental ensembles, seasonal concerts, and annual musical theatre productions.
Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognized teaching credential.
A strong academic degree in Music, Music Performance, Composition, Music Education, or a closely related discipline (proficiency in piano, keyboard, or a primary instrument/vocals is essential).
Proven track record or demonstrated capability of delivering outstanding Music instruction across Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 (KS5/A-Level teaching capability is highly desirable).
Thorough knowledge of national Music examination board specifications (e.g., Edexcel, AQA, OCR, Pearson BTEC) and practical competency in music software (e.g., Logic Pro, Sibelius).
Outstanding classroom and rehearsal management, strong interpersonal skills, and an infectious enthusiasm for musical expression and student performances.
Salary & Benefits
Pay Scale: Outer London Main / Upper Pay Scale (MPS/UPS Outer London, commensurate with experience), with potential TLR opportunities available for Key Stage Music Coordination, Performing Arts Lead, or Co-Curricular Music Lead.
Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS), comprehensive continuous professional development (CPD), structured mentoring, and access to staff health and wellbeing amenities.
