A supportive secondary school in Southampton is seeking a dedicated Pastoral and Behaviour Support Officer to join its student support team.

The school places strong emphasis on pupil wellbeing, positive behaviour and helping young people overcome barriers to learning. The successful candidate will work closely with pastoral leaders, families and wider school staff.

What the role involves

• Supporting pupils experiencing behavioural, emotional or social difficulties.

• Monitoring behaviour incidents and identifying recurring concerns.

• Implementing behaviour support strategies and individual plans.

• Supporting pupils during challenging situations and helping them return to lessons.

• Liaising with parents and carers regarding behaviour and wellbeing.

• Maintaining accurate pastoral records and incident reports.

• Working alongside safeguarding and inclusion teams where appropriate.

The ideal candidate

• Previous pastoral, behaviour support or youth work experience.

• Experience working with secondary-aged pupils.

• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

• Confidence supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.

• Strong communication skills and a calm, empathetic approach.

School-based experience is essential or highly desirable, depending on the candidate’s background.

An enhanced DBS check will be required in line with the role.
