Lead Practitioner of Mathematics – Secondary Academy in York (January Start)

A high-performing secondary academy in York, North Yorkshire, is seeking an articulate Lead Practitioner of Mathematics with a strong background in Statistics and Core Maths to join its quantitative faculty starting in January.

Job Overview

This role combines expert classroom delivery across Key Stage 4 (GCSE Higher Tier) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Mathematics / Level 3 Core Maths) with strategic leadership in data-handling and post-16 applied numeracy pedagogy.

Working directly with the Head of Mathematics and senior leadership, you will model evidence-based teaching strategies, coach non-specialist teachers delivering statistical modules, and lead the expansion of Core Maths across the Sixth Form to support students taking Social Sciences and Sciences. This is a full-time, permanent contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach high-rigor Mathematics and Level 3 Core Maths lessons across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5

  • Lead faculty coaching on statistical reasoning, probability modeling, and real-world data interpretation

  • Audit Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 schemes of work to integrate large data set analysis and technology tools

  • Track assessment metrics to design targeted revision programs and mock exam clinics

  • Mentor early-career math teachers, conducting regular peer lesson observations and joint planning

  • Support university preparation for degree courses requiring advanced quantitative analysis

  • Salary / Pay Rate: Lead Practitioner Scale (LP1–LP5 equivalent)

  • Key Curriculum: Edexcel / AQA Mathematics & AQA Core Maths (Mathematical Studies)

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with an honors degree in Mathematics, Statistics, or a quantitative discipline

  • Demonstrated history of delivering strong GCSE and Key Stage 5 mathematical outcomes

  • Prior experience in teacher coaching, scheme innovation, or post-16 vocational math coordination

  • Deep subject expertise across applied statistics, financial mathematics, and mechanics

  • An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
