Teacher of Chemistry – Secondary School in Bath (January Start)

A scholarly secondary school in Bath, Somerset, is seeking an inspiring Teacher of Chemistry to join its thriving Science faculty on a full-time, permanent basis starting in January.

Job Overview

Chemistry represents an academically rigorous, high-uptake pathway within this school’s GCSE and Sixth Form curriculum. The successful candidate will deliver Key Stage 3 Science, Key Stage 4 (GCSE Combined & Separate Chemistry), and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Chemistry).

Working alongside experienced subject specialists and laboratory technicians, you will lead engaging laboratory practicals, enforce CLEAPSS health and safety standards, teach theoretical physical and organic reaction mechanisms, and prepare students for science-related university degree courses. This is a full-time, permanent contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging Chemistry and Core Science lessons across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5

  • Deliver required practical investigations safely in accordance with CLEAPSS and COSHH standards

  • Train A-Level students in organic reaction pathways, quantitative mole calculations, and spectroscopy

  • Track pupil progress data across end-of-topic diagnostics and formal mock exam assessments

  • Support extra-curricular science enrichment, including the Royal Society of Chemistry Olympiad

  • Fulfill pastoral duties as a Form Tutor, supporting student wellbeing and personal development

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK teaching credentials (PGCE / SCITT)

  • Honors degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related discipline

  • Demonstrated ability (or clear potential during training) to achieve strong GCSE and A-Level Chemistry outcomes

  • Solid laboratory safety awareness and confidence handling practical chemical apparatus

  • An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
