DT Workshop Technician - Secondary School in West Bromwich

About the Role
We are seeking a diligent and skilled Design & Technology Workshop Technician on behalf of a leading secondary school in West Browmich. In this role, you will provide comprehensive technical support to the Design & Technology and Art departments, ensuring all workshops run safely, smoothly, and in full compliance with health and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare, organize, and stock raw materials (timber, metals, plastics) and equipment for practical classes across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5.
Perform routine servicing, safety inspections, and maintenance on hand tools and machinery.
Enforce DATA guidelines and COSHH regulations; carry out systematic risk assessments across all prep rooms and learning spaces.
Assist teachers and students during practical lessons, demonstrating correct tool usage and advising on CAD/CAM projects.
Track department inventory, place purchase orders, and manage deliveries.
Candidate Requirements
Experience: Background in a secondary school DT environment, carpentry, engineering, or a related technical discipline.
Safety Knowledge: Solid understanding of workshop safety standards (formal DATA or H&S certification is highly desirable).
Technical Proficiency: Proven hands-on experience operating standard woodworking and metalworking machinery.
Digital Fabrication Skills: Familiarity with CAD/CAM software, 3D printing, and laser cutters/engravers is preferred.
Vetting: An enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one prior to starting).
