A thriving academy in Portsmouth is seeking a practical and organised Science Preparation Technician to support its science department. The successful candidate will help prepare laboratory materials, maintain equipment and ensure practical lessons can be delivered safely and efficiently.

About the Role

• Prepare apparatus, materials and equipment for science lessons.

• Set up practical activities in advance of scheduled classes.

• Clean, organise and maintain laboratory equipment.

• Monitor stock levels and assist with ordering consumables.

• Follow procedures for the safe handling, storage and disposal of chemicals and materials.

• Maintain preparation areas and laboratory workspaces.

• Report faulty equipment and health and safety concerns.

• Work closely with science staff to meet lesson preparation requirements.

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous laboratory, science technician or practical preparation experience is essential.

• Experience in a school or college science department is highly desirable.

• A relevant science qualification would be advantageous.

• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.

• An understanding of laboratory health and safety.

• Reliable, methodical and able to work to a timetable.

An enhanced DBS check will be required in line with the role.
