A high-achieving, diverse secondary academy in Slough, Berkshire, is seeking an ambitious Head of Psychology & Sociology to lead its popular Social Sciences faculty on a full-time, permanent basis starting in January.

Job Overview

Psychology and Sociology are among the most sought-after Sixth Form disciplines at this academy. The successful candidate will take strategic leadership across Key Stage 4 (GCSE Sociology) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Psychology and A-Level Sociology), driving academic rigor, essay modeling, and empirical research analysis.

Working closely with senior leadership, you will line-manage department colleagues, oversee standardisation and internal assessment moderation, refine schemes of work, and mentor students targeting competitive university courses. This is a full-time, permanent contract.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic direction, curriculum design, and operational management for Psychology and Sociology

• Teach high-rigor A-Level Psychology and Sociology lessons across Year 12 and Year 13

• Lead departmental coaching on 16-mark essay construction, empirical evaluation, and quantitative data analysis

• Analyze assessment tracking data to design targeted revision programs and mock exam interventions

• Coordinate extra-curricular social science lectures, student research projects, and university masterclasses

• Manage department budgets, examination entries, and faculty CPD sessions

Candidate Requirements

• Qualified Teacher Status (QTS, QTLS) with an honors degree in Psychology, Sociology, or a related social science

• Proven track record of delivering top-tier Key Stage 5 examination outcomes

• Prior experience in departmental coordination, key stage leadership, or peer coaching

• An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
