Science Technician – Secondary School in Newham

Position: Science Technician

Location: Newham, East London

Contract: Full-Time, Ongoing

Start Date: Immediate / ASAP

Salary: £85 – £115 per day / £24,000 – £28,000 per annum (equivalent, depending on experience)

We are currently seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Science Technician to join an established secondary school in Newham starting as soon as possible.

This is a brilliant opportunity to work within a well-resourced science department, supporting teachers across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and A-Level practical lessons.

Key Responsibilities:

• Preparing laboratory apparatus, chemical solutions, and equipment for daily practical lessons.

• Ensuring strict adherence to health and safety protocols, including COSHH and risk assessment procedures.

• Maintaining, calibrating, and cleaning laboratory equipment and keeping preparation rooms organised.

• Supporting teaching staff during practical class demonstrations when required.

• Managing departmental stock levels, chemical inventory, and ordering supplies.

Requirements:

• Previous experience as a Science Technician in a secondary school or higher education setting is highly desirable.

• A strong scientific background (a degree in Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Pharmacology, or a related discipline is advantageous).

• Good knowledge of lab safety standards, COSHH guidelines, and chemical preparation.

• Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to apply for one).
