School Information
A supportive Secondary School in Southwark is seeking a resilient and proactive Behaviour and Inclusion Officer to join its pastoral team. The school is committed to creating a positive learning environment in which students understand expectations, build constructive relationships and receive appropriate support to overcome barriers to learning.
The pastoral and inclusion teams work closely with teachers, families and senior leaders to address behavioural concerns, improve attendance and promote positive student engagement. The school recognises the importance of early intervention, consistent boundaries and supportive relationships in helping students make positive choices.
This role would suit someone with experience supporting young people who can combine a calm, fair approach with the confidence to manage challenging situations.
The Role
The Behaviour and Inclusion Officer will support the implementation of the school's behaviour policy and help maintain high standards of conduct throughout the school day.
Responsibilities will include responding to behaviour incidents, supporting students who have been removed from lessons, recording concerns and helping coordinate appropriate follow-up interventions. The successful candidate will work with Heads of Year, pastoral leaders and teaching staff to identify recurring patterns and support students in improving their behaviour and engagement.
The role will also involve communicating with parents and carers, contributing to individual behaviour support plans and monitoring the progress of students who require additional assistance. Where appropriate, the officer will help students reflect on their actions, understand expectations and develop strategies for managing difficult situations.
Safeguarding will remain a key responsibility, with concerns recorded accurately and passed to the designated staff in line with school procedures. The successful applicant will also contribute to promoting inclusion, reducing disruption and encouraging a positive school culture.
Requirements
Applicants should have experience working with children or young people in a school, behaviour support, youth work or pastoral setting. Experience supporting secondary-aged students and responding to challenging behaviour would be particularly advantageous.
Candidates should demonstrate strong communication, conflict-resolution and relationship-building skills. They must be confident maintaining boundaries, applying policies consistently and handling sensitive information appropriately.
The ideal candidate will be calm under pressure, organised and committed to helping students improve their behaviour and access their education. An understanding of safeguarding and inclusive practice is essential.
What the School Offers
The successful candidate will join a dedicated pastoral team and have the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to student behaviour, wellbeing and inclusion. The school offers a collaborative environment where staff work together to support students' progress and personal development.
