School Information
A well-regarded Secondary School in Enfield is looking to appoint a practical and resourceful Design and Technology Technician to support its creative and technically focused department. The school provides a broad curriculum designed to develop students' problem-solving abilities, practical confidence and understanding of how design concepts can be transformed into finished products.
The Design and Technology Department delivers a range of subjects and practical projects across Key Stages 3 and 4, giving students opportunities to develop skills in product design, resistant materials, workshop techniques and computer-aided design. The department aims to provide an environment where students can experiment with ideas, learn new techniques and produce work to a high standard.
The school is seeking someone who can help maintain its practical facilities and ensure teachers have the equipment and materials needed to deliver engaging lessons.
The Role
The successful candidate will provide technical assistance across Design and Technology lessons, preparing tools, machinery, materials and equipment for practical activities. Working alongside teaching staff, the technician will help ensure workshops are organised, resources are readily available and students can complete projects in a safe environment.
Duties will include preparing timber, plastics, metals and other materials, checking equipment before use, maintaining tools and machinery, and assisting with the organisation of workshop resources. The technician will also monitor stock levels, support the ordering of materials and ensure that equipment is stored correctly.
Maintaining high standards of health and safety will be a central part of the position. The successful applicant will help keep workshops clean and orderly, report equipment faults and follow school procedures relating to the use of tools and machinery. There may also be opportunities to assist with displays of students' finished projects and the preparation of materials for assessments.
Requirements
Applicants should have a practical interest in Design and Technology, engineering, product design or a related subject. Previous experience working in a school workshop, design studio or technical environment would be advantageous.
Candidates must be organised, reliable and confident handling practical equipment and materials. An understanding of workshop safety and risk management is highly desirable, alongside the ability to work effectively with teachers and support staff.
The school is particularly interested in someone who takes pride in maintaining equipment, enjoys solving practical problems and can adapt to the changing needs of a busy department.
What the School Offers
The successful candidate will join a collaborative department with dedicated workshop facilities and opportunities to develop their technical skills. The school values its support staff and offers a positive working environment in which the technician can make a meaningful contribution to students' practical education.
