About the Role

An outstanding and welcoming secondary school in Lewisham is seeking a dedicated and organized Science Technician to join their vibrant Science Department.

As a Science Technician, you will play a crucial role in supporting practical learning across Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. You will work closely with teaching staff and the Head of Science to ensure all laboratory equipment and chemical supplies are prepared efficiently, safely, and in accordance with CLEAPSS guidelines.

Key Responsibilities

• Practical Preparation: Set up equipment, chemicals, and materials for daily science practical work across Key Stages 3, 4, and 5 (A-Level).

• Laboratory Maintenance: Maintain, clean, and organize laboratories, prep rooms, and equipment to ensure a safe learning environment.

• Health & Safety: Ensure compliance with COSHH and CLEAPSS health and safety standards; carry out routine safety checks and risk assessment reviews.

• Stock Management: Monitor inventory levels, order chemical supplies and apparatus, and handle incoming deliveries.

• In-Class Support: Assist teachers and students during practical lessons where required, demonstrating technical procedures when needed.

Key Requirements

• Previous experience working as a Science Technician in a school environment or a laboratory setting.

• Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations (COSHH, CLEAPSS).

• A degree or background in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, or related field) is highly desirable.

• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage time effectively.

• Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willing to apply for one).
