Role: Teacher of Religious Education – KS3–KS4
Location: Hitchin, Hertfordshire
Contract: Full-Time, Fixed-Term Contract
Start Date: January 2027, for two terms
Salary: MPS/UPS, dependent on experience

A secondary academy in Hitchin is seeking an RE Teacher for a two-term fixed-term appointment. The school wants a thoughtful practitioner who can encourage respectful discussion, build religious literacy and help pupils develop balanced arguments about ethical and philosophical questions.

The Role

  • Teach RE across KS3–KS4.

  • Deliver lessons exploring religious traditions, beliefs, practices and ethical issues.

  • Develop pupils’ written evaluation, reasoning and discussion skills.

  • Assess learning regularly and provide clear feedback.

  • Follow the department’s curriculum plans and support examination preparation where required.

The Candidate

  • Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Has secure subject knowledge in Religious Education.

  • Can facilitate sensitive discussions in an inclusive classroom.

  • Differentiates activities to support a range of abilities.

  • Is available to start in January 2027.
