Teacher of Business Studies – Secondary School in Exeter (January Start)

A progressive secondary school in Exeter, Devon, is seeking an enthusiastic Teacher of Business Studies to join its Social Sciences team on a full-time, permanent basis starting in January.

Job Overview

Business Studies is an increasingly popular subject choice at Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 in this school. The successful applicant will deliver engaging, real-world Business lessons across Key Stage 4 (GCSE / BTEC) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level / Level 3 Vocational).

Working closely with department colleagues, you will guide pupils through enterprise, marketing, financial planning, and operational management, while helping to organize external corporate visits and enterprise competitions. This is a full-time, permanent contract.

Key Responsibilities

  • Teach engaging practical and theoretical Business Studies lessons across Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5

  • Guide GCSE, A-Level, and vocational students through coursework portfolios, financial calculations, and written exam preparation

  • Support student enterprise projects, Young Enterprise initiatives, and industry guest speaker events

  • Maintain digital business labs and interactive teaching resources effectively

  • Assess, track, and report on student progress across internal portfolios and external examinations

  • Fulfill pastoral duties as a Form Tutor, supporting student wellbeing and personal development

  • Salary / Pay Rate: MPS / UPS equivalent

  • Key Curriculum: Edexcel / AQA / Pearson BTEC Business

Candidate Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS, QTLS) or recognized UK teaching credentials (PGCE / SCITT)

  • Honors degree in Business Management, Enterprise, Finance, or a related field

  • Proven ability (or clear potential during training) to deliver strong outcomes at GCSE and Key Stage 5

  • Good understanding of vocational coursework frameworks and exam board requirements

  • An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
