With a focus on academic achievement, personal development and inclusive education, the school recognises the importance of an efficient admissions process in ensuring families receive a positive first impression.
The successful candidate will join a busy school office and work closely with senior leaders, administrative colleagues and relevant local authority teams. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative skills who enjoys communicating with families and coordinating processes that support pupils throughout their educational journey.
The Role
The Admissions Officer will oversee the day-to-day administration of pupil admissions, ensuring that applications, enquiries and enrolment arrangements are handled efficiently and accurately. The postholder will act as a key point of contact for prospective and current parents, providing clear information about admission procedures, application deadlines and the documentation required.
Responsibilities will include processing applications, maintaining accurate pupil records and monitoring the progress of applications from initial enquiry through to confirmation of a school place. The successful candidate will ensure that information is entered correctly onto the school's management information system and that relevant records are updated promptly.
The role will involve responding to telephone and email enquiries, assisting families with application forms and explaining admissions procedures in a professional and approachable manner. The Admissions Officer will also liaise with the local authority regarding pupil allocations, in-year transfers and other admissions-related matters where appropriate.
A further responsibility will be coordinating admissions meetings, school tours and transition arrangements for new pupils. The postholder will work with relevant staff to ensure that new starters receive the necessary information and that appropriate records are available before pupils join the school.
The successful candidate will also support the preparation of admissions reports, maintain waiting lists where applicable and ensure that confidential pupil information is stored and handled in accordance with school procedures. They will help identify outstanding documentation, follow up on incomplete applications and ensure that important deadlines are met.
As part of the wider administrative team, the Admissions Officer may assist with general office duties during particularly busy periods. The ability to prioritise tasks, maintain accurate records and respond calmly to a high volume of enquiries will be essential.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in administration, admissions, customer service or a similar office-based role. Experience working within a school, college or another educational setting would be advantageous.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, as the postholder will regularly interact with parents, pupils, colleagues and external organisations. Candidates should be confident using Microsoft Office and computerised record-management systems, with the ability to handle information accurately and efficiently.
The successful applicant will demonstrate excellent organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities. A friendly and professional approach is important, particularly when assisting families who may require additional guidance with the admissions process.
Applicants must understand the importance of confidentiality and safeguarding when handling pupil information. Previous experience with school admissions procedures, local authority applications or pupil management systems would be beneficial.
