Do you have the ability to turn historical events into compelling learning experiences while developing students’ skills in evidence analysis, interpretation and structured argument?

A secondary school in Stowmarket is seeking a History Teacher to provide maternity cover within its humanities faculty. The successful candidate will deliver a carefully sequenced curriculum that develops historical knowledge and prepares students for GCSE assessments.

The Role

  • Historical Instruction: Teach key historical periods, events and interpretations across KS3 and KS4.

  • Source Analysis: Develop students’ ability to evaluate primary and secondary sources and recognise different historical perspectives.

  • GCSE Preparation: Support students with examination questions, essay structure and evidence-based explanations.

  • Curriculum Continuity: Maintain existing schemes of work and collaborate with colleagues to support consistent learning.

The Candidate

  • Qualifications: Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Historical Knowledge: Demonstrates secure subject knowledge and confidence teaching the relevant curriculum.

  • Analytical Approach: Can help students develop reasoned arguments supported by evidence.

  • Professional Flexibility: Can quickly adapt to established departmental routines and assessment expectations.
