Role: Reception Class Teacher

Contract: Full-time, maternity cover
Start Date: January 2027
Salary: MPS/UPS, dependent on experience

A primary school in Hitchin is looking to appoint a Reception Teacher to cover a period of maternity leave. The school is seeking someone who understands early childhood development and can provide a stimulating learning environment for children beginning their formal education.

The Role

  • Deliver engaging learning experiences in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage.

  • Plan a balance of adult-led activities and child-initiated learning.

  • Support early communication, phonics, literacy and mathematical development.

  • Observe and assess children’s progress against developmental milestones.

  • Establish positive relationships with families and carers.

  • Work with early years staff to support children’s wellbeing and school readiness.

The Candidate

  • Holds QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.

  • Has a good understanding of the EYFS framework.

  • Can create a safe, nurturing and engaging classroom.

  • Demonstrates patience, creativity and strong communication skills.
