Art Teacher required for a January start
Secondary school located in Ipswich
Teaching opportunity across KS3 and KS4
Opportunity to develop engaging practical lessons and creative projects
Open to experienced teachers and suitably qualified ECTs
Our client is looking for a passionate Art Teacher to join a secondary school in Ipswich from January. This vacancy offers an opportunity for a creative educator who can inspire pupils to explore different materials, develop practical techniques and express their ideas through art. The successful applicant will help pupils build their artistic confidence while delivering a curriculum that promotes experimentation, critical thinking and an appreciation of visual culture.
The Art Teacher will plan and deliver lessons that develop pupils' skills progressively, introducing them to a variety of media and techniques while encouraging them to explore their own creative interests. Pupils should be given opportunities to study artists and artistic movements, analyse visual work, experiment with materials and produce original pieces that demonstrate their understanding and developing technical ability.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate practical processes clearly, provide structured guidance and encourage pupils to reflect on the choices they make during the creative process. They will support learners in developing sketchbooks, refining compositions, evaluating outcomes and responding constructively to feedback. Differentiation will be important, ensuring that pupils who need additional guidance can access the curriculum while more confident artists are encouraged to take creative risks and develop greater independence.
The role will also involve monitoring pupil progress, assessing practical work and helping learners understand how to improve their artistic outcomes. For older pupils, the teacher may support GCSE coursework, portfolio preparation and the development of examination-related skills in line with the school's curriculum.
School Information:
The school is based in Ipswich and provides an opportunity to contribute to an environment where pupils can develop both academically and creatively. The successful teacher will help ensure that Art lessons are engaging, purposeful and accessible, while maintaining high expectations for effort, presentation and the responsible use of equipment and materials.
The department aims to nurture pupils' curiosity and encourage them to appreciate how art communicates ideas, reflects different cultures and connects to the world around them. Through a combination of practical work, research, discussion and evaluation, pupils should be supported in developing the confidence to express themselves and take pride in their achievements.
