Inspire a Love of English
Are you a passionate English teacher who loves helping young people find their voice, discover great literature and build confidence in their own ideas? A lovely secondary school in Birkenhead is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic English Teacher to join its team.
This is a fantastic opportunity to become part of a supportive school community where building positive relationships with students and making learning meaningful are at the heart of the role.
Whether you're exploring classic novels, analysing poetry or helping students develop their writing skills, you'll have the chance to make English engaging, accessible and relevant to everyday life. You'll help students grow in confidence, think independently and develop the communication skills they'll need well beyond the classroom.
We're keen to hear from teachers who bring energy, patience and creativity to their lessons and who genuinely want to help every student achieve their best.
What the Role Involves
You'll plan and deliver engaging English lessons across the relevant secondary year groups, helping students develop their knowledge, skills and enjoyment of the subject.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:
Teaching English Language and English Literature across the relevant Key Stages.
Planning creative, well-structured lessons that encourage students to participate and think critically.
Helping students explore novels, plays, poetry and non-fiction texts from a range of writers and perspectives.
Developing reading comprehension, analytical writing, creative writing and communication skills.
Assessing students' work and providing clear, constructive feedback to support their progress.
Preparing students for GCSE examinations where required.
Adapting lessons and resources to support different abilities, interests and learning needs.
Creating a positive classroom environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and sharing ideas.
Maintaining clear expectations for behaviour, engagement and effort.
Working with colleagues to share resources, ideas and effective teaching approaches.
Supporting students who need additional encouragement while providing appropriate challenge for those ready to progress further.
Contributing to the wider life of the school through enrichment activities and departmental initiatives.
Who We're Looking For
The school would love to hear from an English teacher who enjoys their subject and understands the difference a good teacher can make to a young person's confidence and future opportunities.
Ideally, you'll have:
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
A degree in English Literature, English Language or a related subject.
Experience teaching English in a secondary school, or relevant training as an Early Career Teacher.
Strong subject knowledge and enthusiasm for language, literature and writing.
The ability to plan engaging lessons that meet a range of learning needs.
Good classroom management skills and a positive, consistent approach to behaviour.
The confidence to encourage participation and build positive relationships with students.
Strong communication, organisation and assessment skills.
A commitment to helping students make progress and achieve their potential.
A flexible, collaborative attitude and a willingness to contribute to the wider school community.
Above all, we're looking for someone who is approachable, enthusiastic and committed to helping young people succeed.
What Makes This Opportunity Special?
A great school is about more than what happens in the classroom. It's about the relationships you build, the support you receive from colleagues and the difference you can make to students as they grow.
This role offers the opportunity to join a welcoming secondary school in Birkenhead, work alongside fellow professionals and help students develop skills that will stay with them for life.
You can look forward to:
A supportive and friendly school environment.
The opportunity to make a genuine difference to students' learning and confidence.
A varied teaching role with opportunities to bring your own ideas into the classroom.
Collaboration with colleagues who share a commitment to student progress.
Opportunities to develop your teaching practice and professional skills.
The chance to contribute to activities that make English exciting beyond the curriculum.
The Kind of Teacher Who Will Thrive Here
You'll be someone who sees potential in every student, even when they need a little extra encouragement. You'll know when to challenge, when to listen and when to try a different approach.
You'll bring enthusiasm into your lessons, take pride in seeing students improve and value being part of a team that works together to give young people the best possible experience at school.
If you believe English can open doors, build confidence and help students better understand themselves and others, this could be a great opportunity for you.
Safeguarding
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All staff are expected to share this commitment.
The successful applicant will be required to complete appropriate pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references, right-to-work verification and verification of relevant qualifications.
