Role Overview

As Caretaker and Evening Site Supervisor, you will help ensure that school buildings are ready for the next school day and that evening activities can take place safely. You will carry out routine site checks, assist with setting up rooms and monitor access to the premises in accordance with school procedures.

The position may involve working later shifts or supporting occasional evening events, depending on the school's operational requirements. The actual working hours and any responsibility for supervising lettings should be confirmed before the vacancy is advertised.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out site opening or closing duties in line with the school's agreed procedures.

• Check doors, windows, gates and other access points to ensure the site is secure.

• Complete routine inspections of classrooms, corridors, washrooms and external areas.

• Carry out minor repairs and general maintenance within your competence.

• Prepare halls, classrooms and meeting rooms for evening activities and school events.

• Assist with setting up furniture, equipment and facilities for approved lettings.

• Monitor access to the premises and follow visitor sign-in and security procedures.

• Report incidents, damage, hazards or suspicious activity promptly.

• Ensure communal areas and access routes are left clean, tidy and safe.

• Check that lights and equipment are switched off where appropriate and in accordance with school procedures.

• Support the handover of site information to other caretaking staff.

• Maintain records of site checks and outstanding maintenance issues.

• Liaise with authorised staff and external users regarding facilities arrangements.

• Follow emergency procedures and health and safety requirements.

• Maintain professional boundaries and follow safeguarding procedures when children or young people are on site.

Experience and Skills

• Previous caretaker, site assistant or facilities experience is desirable.
