About the School

A welcoming primary school in Woking is looking to appoint a dependable and practical School Caretaker to support the maintenance, security and general upkeep of its premises. The school requires someone who understands the importance of providing a safe and well-maintained environment for pupils, staff and visitors. Previous school site experience is essential, as the successful candidate will need to understand the specific operational and safeguarding requirements of an active school site.

About the Role

Working alongside the school's premises team and senior leadership, the caretaker will help ensure the buildings and grounds remain safe, secure and ready for daily use. Duties will include:

• Opening and securing the school buildings and external areas.

• Carrying out routine site inspections and reporting maintenance issues.

• Completing minor repairs and general maintenance tasks.

• Checking that entrances, playgrounds, corridors and communal areas remain safe and tidy.

• Supporting health and safety checks and maintaining relevant site records.

• Assisting with the preparation of classrooms, halls and other spaces for school activities.

• Liaising with contractors and reporting any concerns regarding work carried out on site.

• Responding to urgent premises issues and supporting emergency procedures when required.

The Ideal Candidate

• Previous experience as a caretaker, premises assistant or site operative within a school is essential.

• Practical maintenance skills and confidence completing minor repairs.

• An understanding of school-site security, health and safety and safeguarding.

• The ability to work independently and prioritise tasks.

• Good communication skills and a reliable, hands-on approach.

• Flexibility to support site opening, locking and occasional school events.

An enhanced DBS check will be required in line with the role.
