A church-affiliated secondary school in Hitchin is seeking an RE Teacher for a January 2027 start. The school is looking for a teacher who can encourage thoughtful discussion, develop pupils' understanding of religious and non-religious worldviews, and create an inclusive classroom environment.

The Role

  • Teach Religious Education across KS3 and KS4.

  • Explore religious beliefs, ethical questions and contemporary issues.

  • Develop pupils' evaluation, discussion and extended-writing skills.

  • Prepare relevant GCSE classes for assessments and examinations.

  • Plan lessons that encourage respectful dialogue and critical thinking.

The Candidate

  • Holds QTS and has a strong understanding of the RE curriculum.

  • Can manage sensitive discussions fairly and thoughtfully.

  • Uses clear explanations and structured questioning.

  • Promotes respect for different beliefs and perspectives.

The school places importance on pastoral care, respectful relationships and academic progress. The RE department provides curriculum guidance and opportunities to collaborate with colleagues across humanities.
