School Information
A supportive secondary school in Liverpool is seeking a resilient and enthusiastic Behaviour Support Officer to join its pastoral team. The school is committed to creating a positive learning environment where pupils feel safe, supported and encouraged to achieve their potential. It recognises that effective behaviour management, strong relationships and early intervention are essential to helping young people succeed.
The successful candidate will work alongside teaching staff, pastoral leaders and the senior leadership team to promote positive behaviour, improve pupil engagement and support students who may experience challenges in the classroom or wider school environment.
The Role
The Behaviour Support Officer will play an important role in maintaining high standards of behaviour and ensuring pupils receive appropriate support to engage successfully with their education. The position will involve working directly with students who display challenging behaviour, helping them understand expectations and encouraging them to make positive choices.

The successful candidate will work closely with heads of year and teaching staff to identify recurring concerns, recognise patterns and develop appropriate approaches to improve individual pupil outcomes.
The role will also involve supporting pupils who struggle with emotional regulation, attendance, motivation or relationships with their peers. The postholder will help de-escalate difficult situations calmly and professionally, applying consistent boundaries while treating pupils fairly and respectfully.
Communication with parents and carers will form part of the role, alongside contributing to pastoral meetings and supporting reintegration arrangements where appropriate. The Behaviour Support Officer will also help promote positive conduct around the school, including during lesson transitions and unstructured periods.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have experience supporting children or young people in a secondary school, alternative provision, youth work or a similar setting. Confidence in behaviour management, conflict resolution and building professional relationships is essential.
Applicants should be patient, resilient and approachable, with the ability to remain calm under pressure. An understanding of safeguarding, pastoral support and strategies for helping pupils regulate their behaviour would be advantageous.
