Help Maintain a Safe and Welcoming School in Newham

📍 Location: Newham, East London
📅 Start: ASAP
📄 Contract: Permanent, Full-Time
🕐 Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday–Friday
💷 Salary: £31,250 per annum

An established school in Newham is looking to appoint a practical and motivated Caretaker to support the day-to-day upkeep of its buildings and grounds. You'll be a key member of the site team, helping ensure the school remains secure, well maintained and ready for pupils and staff each day.

What You'll Be Responsible For

  • Completing routine maintenance and minor repairs.

  • Opening and closing the school site and checking security arrangements.

  • Carrying out daily inspections and recording any issues.

  • Monitoring heating, lighting, access points and general site conditions.

  • Preparing rooms and moving furniture for lessons and events.

  • Maintaining outdoor areas and reporting grounds maintenance needs.

  • Liaising with contractors and arranging access when required.

  • Reporting hazards, damage and urgent repairs to the appropriate manager.

About You

You will be proactive, reliable and able to manage a varied workload without losing sight of safety and security. Practical maintenance or caretaking experience is essential, and experience working in a school would be beneficial.

Good communication skills and a professional approach are important, as you'll interact with staff, visitors and contractors throughout the day. Appointment will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
