A top-performing secondary academy in Reading is seeking an ambitious Subject Leader for Physics to lead its physics department and Key Stage 5 A-Level curriculum on a full-time, permanent basis starting in January.
Job Overview
Physics is a flagship subject within this academy's thriving STEM faculty. The successful candidate will take strategic responsibility for physics schemes of work, practical required assessments, laboratory equipment setups, and exam outcomes across Key Stage 4 (GCSE Combined & Separate Sciences) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level Physics).
Working alongside the Head of Science and subject technicians, you will mentor science teachers delivering physics modules, guide students through advanced mechanics, fields, and quantum phenomena, and coordinate university STEM entry programs. This is a full-time, permanent contract.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the curriculum design, assessment tracking, and delivery of Key Stage 4 and Key Stage 5 Physics
Teach intellectually rigorous Physics lessons across Key Stage 4 (GCSE) and Key Stage 5 (A-Level)
Enforce laboratory safety protocols (CLEAPSS) and maintain specialized physics apparatus (oscilloscopes, radioactive sources, lasers)
Monitor pupil progress, lead targeted revision workshops, and coordinate mock examination moderation
Prepare Sixth Form candidates for university engineering and physics entrance exams (PAT / ENGAA / Oxbridge)
Mentor non-specialist science teachers delivering Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 physics topics

Candidate Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK credentials with an honors degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related discipline
Demonstrated track record of delivering strong GCSE and A-Level Physics outcomes
In-depth knowledge of CLEAPSS safety standards for physics equipment and practical assessment requirements
An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
