Key Responsibilities:
Plan and deliver engaging Biology lessons in line with the school's curriculum and relevant examination specifications.
Teach biological concepts such as cell biology, organisation, genetics, inheritance, ecology, evolution and human physiology, as appropriate to the classes assigned.
Develop students' scientific vocabulary, analytical thinking and ability to interpret biological data.
Incorporate practical investigations, demonstrations and scientific enquiry where appropriate and in accordance with laboratory safety procedures.
Support students in understanding experimental methods, evaluating evidence and drawing justified conclusions.
Prepare students for assessments and examinations through structured practice, revision activities and constructive feedback.
Monitor progress through questioning, classwork, homework and formal assessments.
Identify gaps in understanding and implement targeted strategies to support improvement.
Differentiate lessons and resources to meet the needs of students with varying abilities and learning requirements.
Maintain high expectations for behaviour, participation and academic effort.
Work collaboratively with Science colleagues to review curriculum delivery and share effective teaching resources.
Encourage students to appreciate the relevance of Biology to health, the environment, biotechnology and wider scientific developments.
Contribute to the wider school community and enrichment activities where appropriate.
Experience and Qualifications:
A qualified Biology Teacher, or a Science Teacher with strong Biology subject knowledge.
QTS, a PGCE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
The ability to teach Biology at the relevant key stages and examination levels required by the school.
Strong knowledge of biological concepts and confidence delivering practical and theoretical content.
The ability to plan differentiated lessons that engage students and support academic progress.
Effective classroom management and a commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment.
Confidence using assessment and feedback to identify misconceptions and improve outcomes.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
A commitment to safeguarding, inclusion and professional development.
