The Role and Responsibilities:
The successful Music Teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering lessons that develop students' understanding of musical concepts and their ability to apply this knowledge in practical situations. Lessons should be structured, purposeful and adapted to meet a range of learning needs.
Responsibilities will include:
Teaching Music across KS3 and KS4, following the school's curriculum and relevant examination specifications.
Planning engaging lessons covering performance, composition, listening, musical theory and the study of different musical styles.
Developing students' understanding of rhythm, melody, harmony, notation and musical structure.
Providing opportunities for students to use instruments, technology and other resources to develop practical musical skills.
Supporting students in preparing compositions, performances and assessed coursework where applicable.
Differentiating lessons to support students with different abilities, interests and learning needs.
Assessing student progress regularly and providing constructive feedback to improve musical understanding and performance.
Maintaining high standards of classroom behaviour and promoting a respectful, inclusive learning environment.
Working collaboratively with colleagues to review curriculum delivery and share effective teaching resources.
Encouraging participation in extracurricular music activities and contributing to the wider life of the school where appropriate.
Experience and Qualifications:
A qualified Music Teacher with the ability to teach across KS3 and KS4.
QTS, a PGCE or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification.
Strong subject knowledge in Music, including practical and theoretical elements.
The ability to plan creative, differentiated lessons that engage students of varying abilities.
Effective classroom management and a commitment to high expectations.
Good communication and organisational skills.
A genuine passion for music education and student development.
A willingness to contribute to enrichment activities and collaborative departmental work.
The legal right to work in the UK.
