A secondary school in Basingstoke is seeking a capable and analytical School Data and MIS Officer to support the effective management of pupil information, assessment records and school management systems. The school recognises the importance of accurate data in monitoring progress, improving attendance and supporting informed decision-making.
The successful candidate will work closely with the senior leadership team, teaching staff and administrative colleagues to ensure that school information is reliable, accessible to authorised staff and maintained in accordance with relevant procedures.
The Role
The School Data and MIS Officer will be responsible for maintaining and updating the school's management information system, ensuring that pupil records, attendance information, assessment data and other key records are accurate and up to date.
A significant part of the role will involve supporting assessment and reporting cycles. The postholder will help prepare assessment data, generate reports, check information for inconsistencies and ensure that relevant data is available to staff within agreed deadlines. They will also assist with the preparation of pupil reports and provide administrative support during key reporting periods.
The successful candidate will work with staff to resolve data queries, maintain effective recording procedures and improve the consistency of information entered into school systems. They will help identify missing or inaccurate records and follow up with the appropriate colleagues to ensure that information is corrected promptly.
Additional responsibilities may include supporting attendance and census returns, maintaining pupil records, assisting with timetable-related data and providing guidance to colleagues on the use of school information systems. The postholder will be expected to handle sensitive pupil information appropriately and follow data protection and confidentiality requirements.
This position would suit someone who enjoys working with data, takes pride in accuracy and can explain technical information clearly to colleagues who may have different levels of IT confidence.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have experience in data administration, management information systems, reporting or a similar analytical role. Strong Excel skills, excellent attention to detail and the ability to manage deadlines are essential.
Previous experience using a school MIS, such as SIMS, Arbor or Bromcom, would be advantageous. Applicants should be confident checking large volumes of information, identifying discrepancies and maintaining accurate records.
Strong communication skills, discretion and the ability to work collaboratively with different departments are also important.
