An established independent secondary school in St Albans is seeking a highly organised Examinations Officer to coordinate its internal and external examination processes. The school places considerable importance on academic achievement and is looking for a detail-focused professional who can ensure that examinations are administered accurately, efficiently and in accordance with relevant requirements.
The successful candidate will work closely with academic staff, senior leaders, examination boards and administrative colleagues to coordinate examination arrangements throughout the academic year.
The Role
The Examinations Officer will oversee the organisation and administration of public examinations, including GCSEs, A Levels and other relevant qualifications. This will involve managing examination entries, maintaining accurate candidate records, coordinating examination timetables and ensuring that all deadlines are met.
The postholder will be responsible for arranging examination rooms, coordinating invigilators, preparing examination materials and ensuring that appropriate procedures are followed before, during and after each examination session. They will also communicate important examination information to pupils, parents and staff, ensuring that everyone understands the relevant arrangements and deadlines.
Additional responsibilities will include processing amendments to examination entries, managing access arrangements in liaison with the appropriate staff, handling examination results and supporting the administration of certificates. The Examinations Officer will maintain confidential records and ensure that examination materials are stored and handled securely.
During busy examination periods, the successful candidate will need to manage competing priorities, respond promptly to unexpected issues and maintain a calm, organised approach.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience in examinations administration, school administration or a similarly detail-oriented role. Excellent organisational skills, accuracy and the ability to meet strict deadlines are essential.
Knowledge of GCSE and A Level examination procedures, examination board requirements and relevant administrative systems would be advantageous. Applicants should be confident using Microsoft Office, handling confidential information and communicating professionally with pupils, parents and colleagues.
