An independent school in Kingston upon Thames is seeking a creative and practical Design and Technology Teacher to join its DT Department. The school is looking for a teacher who can help students turn ideas into workable designs while developing their technical knowledge, problem-solving ability and confidence in practical work.
Design and Technology Teacher Role
Teaching Design and Technology across KS3 and KS4, including GCSE
Location: Kingston upon Thames
Salary: MPS1–UPS3
Contract: Full-time, permanent
Start Date: ASAP
You will deliver a varied Design and Technology curriculum, helping students understand the design process from initial research and concept development through to modelling, manufacture and evaluation.
At KS3, you will introduce pupils to design principles, materials, tools, workshop procedures and practical problem-solving. At KS4, you will prepare students for GCSE DT, supporting them with iterative design work, technical knowledge, material selection and examination preparation.
Students will be encouraged to identify design problems, develop possible solutions and evaluate their finished products against clear criteria. You will demonstrate safe working practices and ensure students understand how to use equipment responsibly.
The role will also involve assessing coursework and practical outcomes, providing feedback and helping students improve both their technical skills and the quality of their design decisions.

Design and Technology Teacher - Experience and Qualifications
Degree in Design and Technology or a related subject
QTS or recognised teaching qualification
Experience teaching DT at secondary level
Ability to teach KS3 and KS4
GCSE DT experience
Strong knowledge of materials and design processes
Confidence managing practical classroom activities
Good understanding of workshop safety
Strong organisation and behaviour management
Effective planning and assessment skills
Commitment to developing students' practical abilities
Salary
The salary for this Design and Technology Teacher position will be paid to scale on MPS/UPS, depending on experience and qualifications.
