About the School

A friendly and well-regarded primary school in Bournemouth is seeking an experienced School Caretaker to join its site team.

The school provides a busy environment with classrooms, offices, playgrounds, outdoor learning areas and shared facilities requiring daily attention. The successful candidate will play an important role in ensuring the school opens safely each morning, remains well maintained throughout the day and is secure at the end of the school day.

The school is looking for someone who understands the practical demands of working in an educational setting and has previous school premises experience.

About the Role

The successful Caretaker will take responsibility for a wide range of practical and site-based duties, including:

• Opening and securing the school each day.

• Carrying out morning site and safety checks.

• Completing minor repairs and general maintenance.

• Checking classrooms, corridors, toilets and communal areas.

• Maintaining outdoor areas and playgrounds.

• Preparing rooms for assemblies, meetings and school activities.

• Moving furniture and equipment around the school.

• Supporting deliveries and contractors.

• Monitoring the condition of doors, windows, lighting and other facilities.

• Supporting fire safety checks and emergency procedures.

• Reporting maintenance concerns to the school's leadership team.

• Responding to urgent issues during the school day.

• Ensuring the site remains safe, clean and presentable.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience as a school caretaker, premises officer or similar school-based role is essential.

You should be practical, reliable and able to work independently while understanding the importance of safeguarding when working around pupils.

The school would particularly value someone who is:

• Experienced in general school maintenance.

• Confident carrying out basic repairs.

• Familiar with school health and safety procedures.

• Comfortable dealing with contractors.

• Organised and able to prioritise.

• Proactive when identifying problems around the site.

• Professional when communicating with staff, parents and visitors.

An enhanced DBS will be required.
