About the School
A friendly and well-established secondary school in Reading is looking to appoint an experienced School Administrator to join its busy main office.
The school office is at the heart of the school's daily operation and deals with pupils, parents, staff, visitors and external professionals throughout the day. The successful candidate will therefore need to be confident working in a busy environment while remaining professional, organised and approachable.
This is a genuine school-based administrative position, and the school is looking for someone who already understands how a school office operates.
About the Role
Working as part of the administration team, you will provide essential support across the school office.
Your responsibilities will include:
Welcoming parents, pupils and visitors to the school.
Managing reception and answering incoming calls.
Responding to parent and general enquiries.
Monitoring and responding to the school's shared inbox.
Maintaining accurate pupil records.
Updating the school's management information system.
Recording and monitoring daily attendance.
Following up unexplained pupil absences.
Supporting admissions and new pupil administration.
Preparing letters, reports and general school correspondence.
Maintaining confidential pupil and staff information.
Providing administrative support to the senior leadership and pastoral teams.
Assisting with school meetings and appointments.
Supporting safeguarding administration and ensuring concerns are passed to the appropriate member of staff.
The Ideal Candidate
Previous experience working in a school office is essential.
The successful candidate should understand the pace and responsibilities of a school reception and be comfortable communicating with parents, pupils and staff.
You should have:
Previous school administration or school reception experience.
Experience using SIMS, Arbor or another school MIS.
Knowledge of school attendance procedures.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Strong IT skills.
A good understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding.
The ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
A friendly but professional manner.
An enhanced DBS will be required.
