Head of Economics – Secondary Academy in Exeter (January Start)
An ambitious secondary academy in Exeter, Devon, is seeking a commercially minded, analytical Head of Economics to lead its Business & Social Sciences department on a full-time, permanent basis starting in January.
Job Overview
Economics is a flagship Sixth Form subject at this academy. The successful applicant will lead academic strategy, curriculum planning, and quantitative analysis for A-Level Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.
Working with faculty colleagues, you will guide students through market structures, fiscal/monetary policy, trade models, and evaluative writing, while coaching economics debate teams and financial challenge entries. This is a full-time, permanent contract.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the strategic growth, curriculum delivery, and exam performance of the Economics department
Teach intellectually rigorous A-Level Economics lessons across Year 12 and Year 13
Train pupils in quantitative data handling, economic diagram construction, and essay evaluation
Manage department assessment cycles, mock exams, and external exam entries
Lead extra-curricular financial initiatives, stock market games, and economics societies
Support students with UCAS applications for Economics, Finance, and PPE degree programs

Candidate Requirements
Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or recognized UK credentials with a degree in Economics or Finance
In-depth understanding of A-Level Economics exam specifications (AQA/Edexcel/OCR)
Proven track record of high student achievement at Key Stage 5
An active enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to apply)
