A welcoming and well-established primary school in Aylesbury is looking to appoint an experienced School Caretaker to join its premises team.

The school has a busy and well-maintained site, with a number of classrooms, offices, communal areas and outdoor spaces used by pupils and staff throughout the school day. The school takes great pride in providing a safe, secure and welcoming environment for its pupils and is looking for someone who can take ownership of the day-to-day running of the premises.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced school caretaker or premises professional who understands the particular requirements of working within an educational environment.

About the Role

The successful candidate will work closely with the school leadership team to ensure the site remains safe, secure and fully operational.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Opening and securing the school site each day.

• Carrying out daily checks of classrooms, corridors, playgrounds and external areas.

• Undertaking general maintenance and minor repairs.

• Monitoring the condition of the school's buildings, fixtures and facilities.

• Preparing rooms and areas for assemblies, meetings and school events.

• Moving furniture and equipment when required.

• Assisting with deliveries and supervising contractors on site.

• Carrying out routine health and safety checks.

• Supporting fire safety procedures and maintaining relevant records.

• Reporting larger repairs and maintenance requirements to the appropriate member of staff.

• Ensuring the school grounds are safe and presentable.

• Responding promptly to maintenance issues during the school day.

The Ideal Candidate

Previous experience working as a caretaker, premises officer or site professional within a school is essential.

The school is looking for someone practical, dependable and proactive who understands the importance of safeguarding and maintaining a safe environment around children.

You should have:

• Previous school-based premises experience.

• Good general maintenance skills.

• Knowledge of health and safety procedures.

• Experience dealing with contractors.

• Good organisational and communication skills.

• The ability to work independently and prioritise urgent tasks.

• A professional and reliable approach.

An enhanced DBS will be required.
