About the Role
We are collaborating with a vibrant, inclusive secondary school in the London Borough of Ealing to recruit a proactive and dedicated Education Welfare Officer. This essential role focuses on championing regular student attendance, investigating root causes of persistent absenteeism, and working directly with families to bridge the gap between home and school.
The successful candidate will play a frontline role in statutory attendance procedures, implementing action plans, and supporting vulnerable young people to re-engage positively with their education.
Key Responsibilities
Attendance Management: Monitor whole-school attendance data, identify trends of persistent absence or lateness, and coordinate targeted intervention strategies.
Family Outreach: Conduct home visits, meetings, and mediations with parents and carers to address barriers to regular attendance.
Case Management: Manage an active caseload of attendance files, maintaining robust records and legal documentation in line with local authority guidelines.
Multi-Agency Collaboration: Liaise closely with Ealing council services, local safeguarding teams, social care, and external agencies to secure holistic support for families.
Policy & Legal Guidance: Advise school leadership and staff on attendance legislation, fixed penalty notice procedures, and statutory responsibilities.
Ideal Candidate Specification
Experience: Proven professional background in education welfare, attendance management, social work, youth justice, or intensive pastoral support.
Knowledge: Sound working knowledge of UK school attendance regulations, statutory safeguarding frameworks (KCSIE), and local authority legal processes.
Skills: Strong negotiation, conflict-resolution, and interviewing skills, with the resilience and diplomacy required to manage challenging family dynamics.
Vetting: An enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one).
