Family Liaison Officer - Westminster
Family Liaison Officer Vacancy – Westminster
Position: Family Liaison Officer (FLO)
Location: City of Westminster, Central London
Contract Type: Full-Time / Long-Term
Start Date: Immediate / As Soon As Possible
About the Role
We are partnering with a progressive, multicultural school in Westminster to appoint an experienced and empathetic Family Liaison Officer. This critical pastoral role acts as a primary bridge between home and school, supporting parents and carers to overcome barriers to learning, improving student attendance, and championing the welfare of vulnerable families.
The successful candidate will work collaboratively with the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) and the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) to deliver early intervention support, signpost local authority services, and foster strong, positive partnerships with our diverse community.
Key Responsibilities
Parental Engagement: Build trusted relationships with parents and carers, encouraging active participation in school life, workshops, and their children's learning journeys.
Attendance & Punctuality: Monitor whole-school attendance data, track persistent absence, and implement supportive strategies or action plans alongside families.
Early Help & Signposting: Assess family support needs and provide direct guidance or referrals to external Westminster agencies (such as housing, children's services, and health providers).
Home Visits: Conduct outreach and home visits when necessary, working in tandem with school safeguarding and attendance procedures.
Safeguarding Support: Act as an extra layer of pastoral vigilance, logging and reporting any child protection concerns directly to the DSL.
Ideal Candidate Specification
Experience: Proven experience working in a family support, pastoral, social work, or community education role—ideally within a London school setting.
Knowledge: Sound understanding of barriers to learning, attendance legislation, safeguarding procedures (KCSIE), and local family support networks.
Communication: Exceptional interpersonal, listening, and mediation skills, with the cultural awareness and tact required to support diverse urban communities.
Vetting: An enhanced DBS check registered on the Update Service (or readiness to undergo clearance).
