About the Role
We are seeking a caring, highly organised School Nurse to join our dedicated pastoral and safeguarding team. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting the health, wellbeing and welfare of pupils across the school, providing professional medical support and ensuring that students receive appropriate care throughout the school day.
Working closely with pupils, parents, teachers, pastoral staff and external healthcare professionals, the School Nurse will provide a welcoming and confidential point of contact for students who require medical attention, ongoing support or advice regarding their health and wellbeing.
Key Responsibilities
Provide first aid and appropriate medical care to pupils and staff in accordance with school policies and clinical guidance.
Assess and respond to illnesses, injuries and medical emergencies, escalating concerns where appropriate.
Manage and maintain accurate and confidential medical records, ensuring information is kept up to date.
Develop and oversee individual healthcare plans for pupils with ongoing medical conditions, working closely with parents, carers and relevant healthcare professionals.
Support pupils with conditions such as asthma, diabetes, allergies, epilepsy and other long-term health needs.
Administer medication safely and in line with school policies, ensuring appropriate consent and documentation are in place.
Monitor pupils returning to school following illness, injury, surgery or hospital treatment and provide appropriate support.
Liaise effectively with parents, carers, GPs, school staff, community nurses and other healthcare professionals.
Contribute to safeguarding procedures and report concerns appropriately in accordance with school policy.
Promote positive physical and emotional health and wellbeing across the school community.
Provide health advice and education to pupils where appropriate, including areas such as hygiene, nutrition, healthy lifestyles and personal wellbeing.
Support the school with health-related policies, procedures and risk assessments.
Maintain appropriate stocks of medical supplies and ensure first-aid equipment is available and in date.
Contribute to staff training where required, including first aid, medication and the management of specific medical conditions.
Maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
About You
The successful candidate will be a qualified and experienced healthcare professional with a genuine commitment to supporting children and young people's health and wellbeing. You will be calm, approachable and confident when dealing with medical situations and able to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider school team.
You will ideally have:
A relevant nursing qualification and current NMC registration.
Previous experience working with children or young people, ideally within a school, paediatric or community setting.
Strong knowledge of safeguarding procedures and professional confidentiality.
Experience managing a range of medical conditions and administering medication.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in potentially challenging situations.
Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
A caring, patient and approachable manner.
The ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff and external professionals.
