Role Overview
An inclusive primary school in Lewisham is seeking an experienced, strategic, and compassionate SENCO to lead their SEND department ASAP. In this pivotal leadership position, you will oversee the strategic development and day-to-day coordination of SEND provision across Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. Working closely with the Senior Leadership Team, class teachers, support staff, and external agencies, you will ensure every child with additional needs receives high-quality adaptive support to achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, evaluate, and develop school-wide SEND policy, intervention mapping, and statutory EHCP annual review processes.
Line-manage, deploy, and mentor a dedicated team of Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).
Advise and train teaching staff on adaptive teaching methodologies, scaffolding techniques, and inclusive classroom management.
Prepare comprehensive EHCP applications and high-needs funding business cases in partnership with Lewisham Local Authority.
Maintain strong, supportive links with parents, carers, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and CAMHS services.
Key Requirements
Recognized UK teaching qualification with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or NPQ for SENCOs (or a commitment to complete within statutory timescales).
Proven track record in SEND coordination, EHCP casework management, and multi-agency liaison in a primary setting.
In-depth understanding of the SEND Code of Practice, primary curriculum assessment, and local authority funding pathways.
Outstanding leadership, communication, and organizational capabilities.
Legal right to work in the UK.
