Role Overview
A welcoming primary school in Merton is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and dedicated Year 1 Teacher to join their Key Stage 1 team ASAP. In this key role, you will guide young learners through the crucial transition from Early Years (EYFS) into formal Key Stage 1 education. You will design a supportive, play-based, and structured classroom environment that fosters early literacy, numeracy, and confidence in every child. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced teachers are equally encouraged to apply.
Key Responsibilities
Plan, deliver, and assess engaging, differentiated lessons tailored to the developmental needs of Year 1 pupils.
Lead daily systematic synthetic phonics sessions to support early reading development and prepare pupils for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.
Establish clear, gentle classroom routines that facilitate a smooth transition from EYFS to Key Stage 1 curriculum expectations.
Collaborate with teaching assistants, the SENCO, and pastoral leads to provide targeted support for pupils with SEND or English as an Additional Language (EAL).
Build positive, collaborative partnerships with parents and carers to support home learning and pupil wellbeing.
Key Requirements
Recognized UK teaching qualification with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
Proven experience or strong placement history in Key Stage 1 or EYFS settings.
Sound understanding of accredited systematic synthetic phonics schemes (e.g., Read Write Inc., Little Wandle, or Sounds-Write).
Strong classroom management, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Legal right to work in the UK.
