Role Overview
A dynamic and inclusive primary school in Southwark is seeking an experienced, strategic, and compassionate SENCO to lead their Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) department ASAP. In this vital leadership role, you will hold responsibility for driving the strategic development of SEND policy, provision mapping, and inclusive practice across Early Years, Key Stage 1, and Key Stage 2. Working alongside senior leaders, class teachers, teaching assistants, and local authority specialists, you will ensure every child with additional needs receives tailored, high-quality support to thrive academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic oversight of school-wide SEND provision, managing high-needs funding, intervention programs, and statutory EHCP annual review processes.
Line-manage and develop a dedicated team of Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).
Advise, mentor, and train class teachers on adaptive teaching techniques, scaffolding, and classroom inclusion strategies.
Prepare robust, evidence-based EHCP applications and business cases for high-needs funding allocations with Southwark Local Authority.
Maintain collaborative working relationships with parents, carers, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and CAMHS professionals.
Key Requirements
Recognized UK teaching qualification with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or NPQ for SENCOs (or a commitment to complete within statutory timescales).
Proven track record of successful SEND leadership, EHCP casework, and multi-agency liaison within a primary setting.
In-depth knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, primary assessment frameworks, and local authority funding pathways.
Strong leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Legal right to work in the UK.
