A welcoming and inclusive community primary school in Bristol is seeking a passionate Reception Teacher to join its Early Years team on a maternity-cover basis. The school is committed to creating an environment where children feel safe, confident and excited about learning.
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating a stimulating Early Years environment and helping pupils develop the foundations they need for successful progression through primary school. The role would suit a teacher with strong EYFS experience who enjoys developing language, communication and early learning skills.
The Role
Reception Class: Take responsibility for the day-to-day teaching, learning and pastoral care of a Reception class.
Early Years Curriculum: Deliver a balanced programme based around the EYFS framework, incorporating both adult-led and child-initiated learning.
Phonics: Deliver structured phonics sessions and support children in developing early reading skills.
Communication: Develop children's vocabulary, listening skills and confidence through carefully planned activities and interactions.
Continuous Provision: Create and maintain an engaging learning environment that encourages curiosity, independence and exploration.
Assessment: Observe pupils carefully and use assessment information to identify next steps.
SEND: Work closely with the SEND team to ensure children with additional needs receive appropriate support.
Parents: Establish positive relationships with parents and communicate regularly regarding children's development.
The Candidate
QTS with experience teaching in EYFS or KS1.
Strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage.
Good knowledge of early phonics and literacy development.
Patient, nurturing and enthusiastic approach.
Strong understanding of child development.
Confident working with teaching assistants and support staff.
Excellent communication and organisational skills.
Commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil welfare.
