Role Overview
An inclusive secondary school in Sutton is seeking an experienced, dedicated, and strategic Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) to lead their SEND department ASAP. In this pivotal leadership position, you will oversee the strategic development and day-to-day operation of the school’s SEND policy and provision. Working in partnership with the Senior Leadership Team, subject teachers, learning support staff, and external multi-agency professionals, you will ensure that pupils with additional needs are fully supported, included, and empowered to reach their academic and personal potential.
Key Responsibilities
Lead, monitor, and evaluate the strategic direction of SEND provision across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4, and Key Stage 5.
Oversee statutory EHCP processes, annual reviews, and SEN Support plans in full compliance with local authority procedures and national frameworks.
Line-manage, mentor, and deploy a team of Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTAs) and Learning Support Assistants (LSAs).
Provide expert advice, training, and guidance to teaching staff on adaptive teaching strategies, scaffolding, and inclusive classroom practice.
Maintain close partnerships with parents, carers, Educational Psychologists, Speech and Language Therapists, and local authority SEND teams.
Key Requirements
Recognized UK teaching qualification with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).
National Award for SEN Coordination (NASENCO) or the NPQ for SENCOs (NPQSENCO) (or currently working towards / willing to complete).
Substantial experience in SEND coordination, statutory EHCP management, and inclusive education within a secondary environment.
Comprehensive knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice, statutory requirements, and local funding pathways.
Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational capabilities.
Legal right to work in the UK.
