Role Overview

A welcoming primary school in Slough is seeking an enthusiastic, creative, and nurturing Year 1 Teacher to join their Key Stage 1 team ASAP. In this key role, you will guide young learners through the crucial transition from Early Years (EYFS) into formal Key Stage 1 education. You will create a vibrant, play-based, and structured learning environment that supports early literacy and numeracy development, fostering curiosity and confidence in every pupil. Early Career Teachers (ECTs) and experienced teachers are equally encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities

  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate high-quality, differentiated lessons tailored to the developmental needs of Year 1 pupils.

  • Deliver daily systematic synthetic phonics sessions to build reading confidence and prepare pupils for the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check.

  • Establish a supportive and well-structured classroom routine that eases the transition from EYFS to Key Stage 1 curriculum expectations.

  • Work closely with teaching assistants, the SENCO, and pastoral leads to provide tailored support for pupils with SEND or English as an Additional Language (EAL).

  • Build positive, open relationships with parents and carers to share pupil progress and support home learning.

Key Requirements

  • Recognized UK teaching qualification with QTS (Qualified Teacher Status).

  • Proven experience or strong placement history within Key Stage 1 or EYFS.

  • Strong working knowledge of early literacy teaching and accredited phonics schemes (e.g., Read Write Inc., Little Wandle, or Sounds-Write).

  • Excellent classroom management, gentle encouragement techniques, and strong communication skills.

  • Legal right to work in the UK.
