Wayman Education is working with an Independent Secondary School in Camden to recruit a dedicated Science Technician. The school is looking for a practical and organised individual who can provide high-quality technical support to the science department and help ensure laboratories are safe, well prepared and fully equipped.
The successful candidate will work closely with teachers across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, supporting practical lessons and helping pupils gain valuable hands-on experience.
The Role
The Science Technician will be responsible for preparing laboratories, equipment and resources for practical science lessons across the school.
The role will involve preparing chemicals, apparatus and other materials ahead of lessons, setting up experiments and demonstrations and ensuring laboratories are ready for teachers and pupils. The successful candidate will also assist with clearing away equipment and maintaining clean, organised and safe practical areas.
The Science Technician will monitor departmental stock, maintain accurate records and assist with ordering chemicals, equipment and other resources. They will check laboratory equipment regularly, report faults and ensure damaged or unsuitable items are removed from use.
The role will require the successful candidate to follow strict health and safety procedures when handling chemicals, biological materials and specialist equipment. They will ensure resources are stored appropriately and assist with the safe disposal of laboratory waste.
The Science Technician may also support practical examinations, prepare resources for assessments and assist teachers with demonstrations and other departmental activities.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will have previous experience working in a laboratory, science department or practical environment. A strong interest in science and practical education would be beneficial.
The successful applicant should be methodical, organised and able to prepare resources accurately within tight lesson schedules. Good communication skills are essential, as the role involves working closely with teachers and other members of the science department.
An understanding of laboratory health and safety procedures is highly desirable. The school is looking for someone reliable, proactive and able to work independently while contributing positively to the wider department.
