Vacancy for a Secretary - Primary School in Redbridge
School Secretary | Full-Time | Primary School in Redbridge | Immediate Start
The Opportunity
A welcoming and well-organised primary school in Redbridge is looking for a confident, approachable and highly organised School Secretary to become an important part of its front-office and administrative team.
This is much more than a traditional administrative role. As one of the first points of contact for pupils, parents, staff and visitors, the School Secretary will help create a warm, professional and efficient school environment every day.
The successful candidate will be someone who enjoys working with people, can keep calm when the day gets busy and takes pride in getting the details right.
What You'll Be Doing
Every day will bring something different. Working closely with the Headteacher, staff and wider school team, you will help keep the school running smoothly behind the scenes.
Your responsibilities will include:
Welcoming pupils, parents, carers and visitors and providing a friendly and professional first point of contact.
Managing incoming telephone calls, emails and general enquiries.
Providing efficient administrative support to the Headteacher and senior leadership team.
Maintaining accurate pupil and staff records and updating school information systems.
Preparing letters, communications, reports and other school documentation.
Managing appointments, meetings, calendars and general correspondence.
Supporting attendance administration and following up pupil absences where required.
Maintaining confidential records and handling sensitive information appropriately.
Supporting admissions, pupil transfers and new starter administration.
Assisting with school events, meetings, trips and other activities.
Ordering stationery and office supplies and helping to maintain an organised office environment.
Liaising with parents, external professionals and other stakeholders in a professional and helpful manner.
Supporting the wider administrative team with general school office duties.
The Person Behind the Role
The school is looking for someone who can be professional without being formal, organised without losing the human touch, and calm when things get busy.
You will ideally have:
Previous administrative, reception, secretarial or school office experience.
Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
Confident written and verbal communication skills.
A friendly, approachable and professional manner.
The ability to communicate effectively with children, parents, staff and external visitors.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Experience maintaining confidential records and handling sensitive information.
The ability to prioritise tasks and manage competing demands.
A proactive approach and the confidence to use initiative.
Reliability, discretion and a strong sense of responsibility.
An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of confidentiality within a school environment.
A Busy School Office — No Two Days the Same
The school office is at the heart of the school community, so this is a role for someone who enjoys variety.
One moment you may be helping a parent with an enquiry, the next supporting a member of staff, updating records or helping the Headteacher prepare for an important meeting.
The successful candidate will need to be comfortable switching between tasks while maintaining a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
Most importantly, you will understand that a great school office is built around people. A welcoming smile, a helpful attitude and the ability to make someone feel listened to can make a real difference.
What the School Offers
In return, the school offers the opportunity to become part of a supportive and committed team where your contribution will be valued.
You can expect:
A friendly and collaborative working environment.
A varied and rewarding administrative position.
Supportive leadership and colleagues.
The opportunity to build strong relationships across the school community.
A role where your organisation and communication skills will have a genuine impact.
Opportunities to develop your school administration and professional skills.
Safeguarding
The school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and expects all staff to share this commitment.
The successful applicant will be subject to appropriate pre-employment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and right-to-work verification.
All staff are expected to follow the school's safeguarding, child protection, confidentiality, data protection, health and safety and professional conduct policies.
