A welcoming primary school in Slough is looking to appoint an experienced and personable HR Officer to join its supportive administrative team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with solid HR experience who enjoys working with people and takes pride in providing an efficient, professional and confidential service. The successful candidate will work closely with the Headteacher and senior leadership team, providing practical HR support across the school and helping to ensure staff feel supported throughout their employment.
The role is varied and hands-on, making it well suited to someone who is organised, approachable and confident managing sensitive matters with discretion.
The Role
The HR Officer will provide day-to-day HR support across the school, helping to ensure that staff records, recruitment processes and employment procedures are managed accurately and efficiently.
Key responsibilities will include:
Maintaining accurate and up-to-date employee records, contracts and personnel files.
Supporting the recruitment process from vacancy advertising through to appointment and induction.
Coordinating interviews, references and pre-employment checks.
Managing safer recruitment processes, including DBS, right-to-work and qualification checks.
Supporting new staff with onboarding and ensuring they receive the appropriate information and documentation.
Maintaining records relating to sickness absence, annual leave, maternity, parental leave and other staff matters.
Providing accurate information to payroll and supporting the administration of monthly payroll processes.
Preparing HR correspondence, reports and documentation for the Headteacher and senior leadership team.
Supporting staff appraisal, performance management and professional development processes.
Assisting managers with employee relations matters, ensuring procedures are followed fairly and consistently.
Providing a helpful first point of contact for staff with routine HR queries.
Maintaining confidentiality when dealing with sensitive employee and personal information.
Keeping HR policies, procedures and staff documentation up to date.
Supporting the school with employment legislation, safeguarding and safer recruitment requirements.
Liaising with external HR advisers, payroll providers and other professional organisations when required.
About You
The school is looking for someone who is professional, approachable and genuinely enjoys supporting people.
The successful candidate will ideally have:
Previous experience in an HR, personnel, recruitment or school administration role.
A good understanding of HR processes and employment practices.
Excellent organisational skills and strong attention to detail.
Experience maintaining confidential records and handling sensitive information.
Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel.
Experience with HR, payroll or school management systems.
An understanding of safer recruitment, DBS checks and right-to-work requirements.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
The ability to manage several priorities while meeting deadlines.
A calm and professional approach when dealing with sensitive or challenging situations.
The confidence to work independently while contributing positively to the wider school team.
High levels of integrity, discretion and confidentiality.
An understanding of safeguarding and the importance of maintaining safe recruitment practices within a school environment.
