We are looking for a dedicated, organised and practical Food Technology Technician to join a welcoming secondary school in Enfield.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with a passion for food, practical learning and supporting young people. You will work closely with Food Technology teachers to ensure lessons are well prepared, resources and ingredients are available, and practical activities are delivered safely and effectively.
The successful candidate will play an important role in supporting pupils to develop their practical cooking, food preparation and nutritional skills while helping to maintain a safe, organised and engaging Food Technology environment.
Your Role
As Food Technology Technician, you will provide practical and technical support to the Food Technology department, helping teachers and pupils prepare for lessons and ensuring classrooms, kitchens and equipment are maintained to a high standard.
You will be responsible for:
Preparing ingredients, equipment and materials for Food Technology lessons.
Supporting teachers during practical food preparation and cooking activities.
Ensuring kitchens, classrooms and food preparation areas are clean, safe and well organised.
Maintaining and checking Food Technology equipment and reporting faults where necessary.
Monitoring food stocks and ordering or replenishing ingredients and consumables as required.
Ensuring ingredients are stored correctly and safely, including appropriate temperature and hygiene controls.
Supporting the safe use of ovens, hobs, mixers, food processors and other practical equipment.
Maintaining appropriate Health & Safety, food hygiene and COSHH procedures.
Assisting with the preparation and organisation of practical assessments and examinations.
Supporting pupils during practical activities and encouraging safe and responsible working practices.
Preparing demonstrations and resources to support classroom teaching.
Maintaining accurate records of equipment, stock, maintenance and safety checks.
Liaising closely with Food Technology teachers and other members of the Design Technology department.
Supporting the smooth day-to-day running of the Food Technology department.
The Person We're Looking For
This role would suit someone who is practical, organised, reliable and passionate about food and education.
You will ideally bring:
Previous experience in a Food Technology, catering, hospitality, school or practical support environment.
Good knowledge of food preparation, cooking techniques and food hygiene.
Excellent organisational and practical skills.
Strong attention to detail and a commitment to Health & Safety.
Confidence using a range of kitchen equipment and Food Technology resources.
An understanding of food allergies, dietary requirements and safe food handling.
The ability to prepare resources and manage competing priorities effectively.
Good communication skills and the ability to work positively with teachers and pupils.
A calm, patient and approachable manner.
The ability to work independently while contributing effectively to a wider school team.
A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
