Role Overview
A progressive secondary school in Dudley is seeking a reliable, practical, and safety-conscious Design & Technology Technician to join their technical support team ASAP. In this key role, you will work closely with teaching staff to support practical learning across Key Stage 3, Key Stage 4 (GCSE Design & Technology / Product Design), and Key Stage 5. You will take responsibility for preparing tools and raw materials, maintaining traditional machinery and modern digital fabrication equipment, and maintaining high health and safety standards across all workshops and prep rooms.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare raw materials, tools, and machinery for daily practical lessons in woodworking, metalworking, plastics, and electronics.
Perform routine maintenance, servicing, and safety checks on workshop machinery (e.g., band saws, pillar drills, lathes, circular saws, laser cutters, 3D printers).
Ensure full compliance with health and safety regulations across all DT spaces in accordance with DATA, CLEAPSS, and COSHH guidelines.
Manage department stock, monitor material inventory, and process orders for consumables, tools, and safety equipment.
Assist teachers and guide pupils on the safe operation of tools and machinery during practical workshop sessions.
Key Requirements
Practical qualifications or a professional background in Design & Technology, Engineering, Carpentry, Product Design, or a related field.
Hands-on experience with traditional workshop machinery as well as modern CAD/CAM equipment (e.g., 2D Design, 3D printing, laser cutting).
Sound knowledge of workshop safety procedures and regulations (DATA / CLEAPSS certification is highly desirable).
Strong organizational skills, practical troubleshooting abilities, and high attention to detail.
